Prototype concept
We have changed much of our design concept since our last iteration. The main difference would be that we changed our content focus from current events(expos, statues etc) to structures from the past after getting feedback from the tutors. It was suggested by them that it would be more interesting to allow the users to discover more about the hidden past of the city instead of focusing on current events that more people would probably know more about. We also wanted to make it to be more similar to a social platform that allows users to interact with each other and provide comments about each location. We also have AR functions built separately that shows images and videos from the past over what the user's camera is showing for them to compare how the location/structure was like in the past compared to the current view from that location.
Prototype function
For the proto.io prototype, we created a homepage with a list of recommended locations that can be sorted by popularity, rating and age of the location/structure. The information screen will provide photos and description of the location along with basic social functions such as like, comment and share. If the AR function for the location is available, the button will appear next to the picture. We have a side bar on almost every screen for better navigation between screens.
The map has been changed from Unity on iteration 2 to web and it is using dynamic google map api. The user can view her/his current location and select up to two location and they map will show the best route the user can take to move from his/her current position to the next two locations. The markers of location could be clicked and it will show the brief information of the location. Due to the limitation of prototype, we were only able to implement the function for users to select up to two location instead of more options as the page do not have enough space.
For the AR scene, information will be displayed over the what the user's camera is pointing towards, and the user can click the "play" button to play the videos of the locations from the past. The user can also add in comment on how they feel about how the location/structure has changed over time.
Instructions
Simply click the link from the readme file to access the prototype for the social platform. Click on "sort by" to sort the locations based on your own preference and click "view more" to learn more about that location. On the information page, We have carousel images for the user to scroll between images. Pressing the "like" button will turn the word and icon blue and clicking the "comment" button will pull up the comments for the user to see, the share button is currently not functional as we were unsure how to include the plugin to share to other social platforms. Once the user is in the comment page, they can view other users comment and expand them if they are too long. Users can click on the blue "add" icon on the bottom right to add in their own comment. The "Home" button on the side menu will direct the user back to the home screen when they started they app while the "map" button will open up the map function that can guide the user from location to location. Switching over to the AR app, simply install the preservation_apk.zip from the dropbox link and open up the app. Once everything is loaded, images and videos will be displayed over their phone's camera, simply turn the phone around to view what is around them. The user can select which location to focus on from the side menu and click on the "Pen" icon to comment on the location.
