Thanks a lot @rlh1994 for helping write up the RFC. Overall, I like it, just a few minor comments (some of these are maybe more directed towards @kevinslin)

On frontmatter referencesAs described in the tradeoffs, I agree there is some overlap with the advanced queries. especially for frontmatter. I think it boils down to what we consider a "transclusion". The work that needs to be done would be similar, or even less because we don't have to worry about the intricacy of how a frontmatter reference is going to be rendered if it is a note reference. Maybe we can implement note frontmatter reference so that the note reference grabs an object that holds all frontmatter as properties, and we can pass that object into the variable substitution syntax foo.md:
bar.md:
Maybe this is already going into the "advanced logic" territory of what we are planning to do with Queries, but I what I'm trying to say is that including frontmatter in what note references can retrieve seems slightly off-scope given

Great writeup, and I'm highly in favor of making references only include up to the next heading by default. The front of the note syntax |

This is the discussion for RFC 47 Better note refrences
The key points are to enhance the note reference (![[...]]) capability to include start/end of note places and change the default behaviour to reference to the next header or equal or greater level.
