How about local development needs for testing deployment/publishing?

I often create a local repo to be used for testing prior to deployment or publishing... this way I can do a dry run to ensure everything, and every test is covered.
I do not see this though in the current setup, am I missing it or is this not something that the group has talked about before? Maybe it has and it was decided that it wasn't a critical aspect that was needed? Thoughts?
