Can't accept invitation for netlify CMS

I tried to set up a site via the one click deploy button. That worked fine, but when I try to accept the invite to become an admin, nothing happens (by that I mean, the site loads with an invite token in the url, but it just loads the homepage as normal, with no modal or anything).

I tried this on multiple browsers (chrome, safari) to no avail

I'm wondering if this is because the elm runtime is removing the modal that netlify cms is trying to add to the page?
