One more dehumidifier

If we're not going to switch on the extraction, then I suggest we need at least one more dehumidifier (for the upstairs bathroom) if not two (one for the upstairs corner bedroom - ours for now).

Need to check cyber Monday sales.

Requirements

• Established/Reputable brand (e.g. Bosch, De'Longhi, Ufesa or Whirlpool; no white-label or zero-history brands that will disappear or be re-branded in a year once they get a few bad reviews ...)
  • and/or reliable seller (with good customer service)
• Large capacity water tank
• Ability to plumb the water directly into the drain in the bathroom so that we don't have to keep emptying it.

I really would like an energy efficient dehumidifier for the basement bathroom.

Our energy consumption right now is INSANE, with a consumption of 1kW at rest (4am with possibly one dishwasher on but even so).
We have consumed 18kW just in the 4 hours of today so far.

I think this is largely due to heaters and towel rails suddenly being on 24/7 (which is ridiculous because our room and the kids' room don't have heaters on so they're being used where there are no people) and some additional tumble dryer use.

But energy efficiency is my main criteria as this isn't going in a bedroom.

I looked at Worten and Radio Popular but I prefer to go through the reviews on Amazon.

We have 2 no-brand dehumidifiers already that you bought at a supermarket and have been working very well for upwards of 3 years 🤷🏻‍♀️

Interestingly I think the actual disconnect here is our requirements for the same thing.
For clarity, here are my priorities on this in list form (rather than written throughout a comment above):

• Energy efficiency - if we're adding another appliance that will likely run for at least half of the day if not continuously in the winter, it has to be very energy efficient
• Low noise - this is sufficiently close to the bedrooms that this is a priority. Currently the ones we have would be too noisy
• Agree on the continuous pump directly into the drain option, taking advantage of the bathroom location

The Kinka dehumidifier I suggested above would have been great as it fits all these criteria compared to the whirlpool (and any higher capacity dehumidifiers generally):

• Just over half the energy consumption (260w/h instead of 420w
• 35dB in silent mode as opposed to 44/40dB for the Whirlpool
• Continuous drainage
• I don't feel that the extra 4l a day capacity is going to make such a huge difference in a small area like that but I may be wrong.

But the Kinka is now €299 instead of €139 so it's a no go.

If you decide to buy the Whirlpool despite the reviews that say it is noisy both on Amazon and the Whirlpool website

@iteles not "no name", they were purchased in-person at Aldi which has a very good warranty/returns process. 👌
And the only reason they were purchased was because they were needed at short-notice.
Energy consumption is only relevant when the ratio of watts per litre is compared ...
i.e. if we have a lot of humidity we want it to be removed from the air fast not slowly.
If the moisture stays in the air for the whole day it causes damp and even mold. 😬

And [for me] the size of the water tank is way more important [to me] than initial acquisition price.
If it takes 3 minutes to empty (€6/h = 10cents/min) and the tank needs to be emptied once per day instead of once every other day, then it costs an extra 30 cents / day = €54/year ... adds up fast.
So the bigger the water tank, the better. 6.5L tank is the upper limit in terms of average person emptying it.
Once the water tank is full the unit automatically shuts off.
If we're able to safely put the water directly down the drain, bonus, but we shouldn't count on it.

As for purchasing from "Mipi.pt" ... you're very welcome to do it with your own time + money. 😜

Having been recently burned by a dodgy e-commerce site (before Xmas) when I tried to buy a game.
I'm increasingly weary of buying from random sites with poor/no reviews.

Yes the mipi site was dodgy but most other sites outside Amazon were in the €170 range and Amazon showed up as €223 for me. I was giving an example, you're right I didn't research it at all 😅

And I don't think tank capacity matters if the intent is to use it in continuous drainage.

For complete clarity, my plan is to wall-mount the dehumidifier out of children's reach and have it emptying into the sink. Don't ask me how yet, I haven't sketched it, but I will make it work.

Having the buttons/display on the Top of the unit means they are not visible without climbing a ladder.

My reasoning for wall-mounting higher up is because Water Vapour Rises. ⬆️
So the machine will operate more efficiently the higher up it goes and it's more child-safe. 🧒
