I am confused at step 4

In step 4, you say one can implement any user action in C. But then, you go into a C++ implementation. What would the equivalent C implementation look like for your example, does the action have to be in C++?

I doesn't matter, In this particular case it can be implemented in C also or in INO file if you are on Arduino.
