What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I'm trying to achieve the following goal:
on any tap on the UI the brightness of the tablet (where the UI runs with user Csalad logged in) should be increased and after a timeout decreased.
The below script tablet_brightness works otherwise via an automation on state changing taps which I want to give up on if I get the secret taps solution working.

I defined a ${HA_CONF}/www/community/home-assistant-secret-taps/secret_taps.yaml:

What is wrong with my approach or what did I misunderstand related to secret taps?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @amaximus,

First of all, something that you would need to have into account is this (mentioned in the notes of the secrets):

Note: you should always configure the taps property using multiple taps and not a very common taps pattern. If you set up an action to be performed with a single tap, its action will be executed every time that you tap on the screen.

This means that you would be calling that script on every touch on the screen (every time that the user clicks on an item), always.

If you are OK with that, let‘s ignore it then.

Just place the configuration in <config directory>/www/. The configuration path should be ${HA_CONF}/www/secret_taps.yaml instead of ${HA_CONF}/www/community/home-assistant-secret-taps/secret_taps.yaml. Check the configuration section.

Thanks for your help! My bad that I missed the location of the secret-taps.yaml.

I moved the secret-taps.yaml to under $HA_CONF/www, restarted HA to have a clean run, but it still doesn't work. Taps work ok (e.g. opening more-info as before), but the configured action/script is not invoked.

Hi @amaximus,

Check these things in order:

1. The console.info of the plugin with the proper version appears on the browser developer console
2. Check if there is any error in the browser developer console
3. Enable the notification parameter and check if the notification appears every time that a secret matches
4. Try with a simple action as opening/closing the sidebar

Let me know when you test these things to see if we spot the issue.

Hi @elchininet ,

I missed adding the plugin (added the js resource only as for any other custom frontend component).
The console-log reported this (I don't know how I couldn't see it before).
Once added the plugin (and the notification), everything is working as expected.

This component is awesome!
