As part of “action 48 - admt-21 Argo data on the cloud” GDAC contacted Amazon and its ASDI program (Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative).
There is now a prototype of GDAC on the cloud, updated daily in an S3 bucket. https://registry.opendata.aws/argo-gdac-marinedata/
The s3 ressource is: s3://argo-gdac-sandbox/
It would be fairly easy to implement a new data fetcher in argopy for this GDAC backed data source
