Question 86: Is it worth keeping (quite an old model I believe, “Datamax I Class”) a thermal printer that’s not in use? [Herps] #878

Response: Yes, keep it.

Currently Herps don't use thermal labels, fishes currently does though. Question to [CM/SM] would they recommend that Herps switch over to thermal labels?

  • CM prefers the thermal labels, more stable (light, ink etc)
  • LSU mammals use thermal labels. [LJ] there is some desire to use thermal labels for holotypes.
  • $1500 for ribbon and paper (ish)
  • Might be an efficiency of scale for zoology.
  • Inverts used to use thermal labels and there is a report for them that is the same as the existing paper report.
    • Is the inconvenience of printer placement a good reason not to use one?
  • For report purposes try and keep resin widths consistent.
