So…how’s it going? (Preps and Parts)

• Imports can resume now.

• Measurements are next…Any questions?

• • The NEW Measurements tab is called “AllMea2Tab” - check field-level help, and look for the ‘Tab Name’
• • • Value is a number
• • • Text is string
• • HOMEWORK: If you can’t see the Allmea2Tab or any of its fields are readonly for you send a helpdesk ticket with your group and the name of the measurements tab(s) that you can see

• IZ - Meeting w/ IT before dec 19

• Anthro - confirming - Value = numeric, Features = text measurements

Anthro/JK - Counts questions/follow-up

• • HOMEWORK: Review and update the fieldhelp for the fields on the existing cataloguing tab so that IT can make the correct mapping to the new fields. DONE Field Help text confirmed by JK during the meeting
• • Next steps for consolidated Catalog tab/s can include consolidating updated/standard counts fields

• Insects/RS - Phenology table access question

• • Maintenance may have still been finishing by yesterday pm – ‘locked’/read-only issues may now be resolved (as of Tues AM)
    Send a helpdesk ticket if not

• Insects/RS Can we request tab order updates/changes?

• • Version 9 will allow you to re-order your tabs. We will be defaulting to alphabetical order, so reordering requests will have to hold until v9 in place unless it’s REALLY urgent!

• Fishes - Skeletal/Skeleton [now ‘part’, not prep] - logic follow-up
  I- - s Skeleton ever going to be in preps?

• • What do the other departments do with skeletons?
• • What corresponding prep/part terms need logic updated in EMu?

• Herps - Dry prep + Skeleton or specific bones for parts

• WS: Fossil Verts - [Smithsonian / hierarchy]

• Mammals - Dry (prep) + Skeleton (part) is used for post cranial. Acknowledges that confusion around collections that use skeleton in other ways.

• Fish - no one else uses “skeletal”

• • HOMEWORK/CLARIFICATION: Replace with skeleton and check with Anthro if they can also use Skeleton.
• • Will “try” and get comfortable (if not happy) with using “dry+skeleton” and revisit with IT in a month.
• • In the preps, what about “alcoholic” ? Who uses that? - MAMMALS do

• HOMEWORK/CLARIFICATION: Get a definition, can we replace ‘Alcoholic’ with “Alcohol” : YES!

• • When determining standard values to use, this was chosen for wet preps by group [according to one of the meeting notes; mis-noted?] Can be replace

• Wet and alcohol are NOT synonymous, for example:

• Insects has specimens in glycerine and other non-alcoholic wet solutions (as well as in alcohol)

• • You should really use the preservation tab to record that it is alcohol/percentage etc

• InsectsMgr can see the now readonly (autocalculated field) but the other insect groups can’t

• • HOMEWORK: Send in a helpdesk ticket
• • RESOLVED - LotSemaphoront_tab is now visible for InsectsUser & other groups

• The changes being made in the preps/parts tabs/fields is tied up with the broader community conversation around the concept of the material entity and the question of what is a specimen?
