Creating dashboard documentation (3)

I thought I was inthe middle of editing my first dashboard but got stuck. Now all I have is this:

No idea how to get back to adding a visualisation as in step 8 in the documentation.

Can you describe how you got there, is there a link?

followed Chris's instructions. Was in the middle of trying to create the layout I think, then screen changed. Not sure what I clicked on though. I have gone back in and am playing around further. Trying to create my first dashboard, its tough.

Hi Giles, there's not a lot we can do with this issue description.

• What do you mean by the "screen changed"?
• Did you click a button? If so, please note down which one it was.
• Which wizard step were you in when it happened?
• It is tough. You're right. But how are you doing now? Have you been successful yet?
• Who are you logged in as?

I had got to stage for creating the content. Added in one dataset, then not quite sure what happened. Been trying to figure out how to get back in and how it all works. Really tough. yet to create my first dashboard. Will keep going

Do you mean you added in one visualisation you'd built? You can't add datasets to a dashboard – they have to be converted into visualisations first.

I'll grant you the main point though – it's definitely not easy and I think, if we progress with this system into a second phase, we would definitely need to explore how we would build a better dashboard system. However, this was the best we could do within the time and with the other priorities pressing.

Nope, just going round and round. I cannot figure out how to get a visualisation on a dashboard. All I can see is the text box, no pictures etc.

This is where I got to. Tried to see what to do in "edit" not obvious. Guide doesn't cover this bit. Help wanted...

@pmackay I think the DEV- instance is broken. I'm just testing out Dashboard creation on there now and it's not showing the Panopoly controls at the bottom of the screen.

If you're on DEV- Giles, please try this again on LIVE- instead.

And you're not seeing the black strip at the bottom of the screen showing the two control buttons you need to be able to edit the layout and add visualisations as per my help doc?

yes, I did that to add a visualisation. However, it didn't show it and now I am stuck.

Might need to get you sharing your screen over Skype with @pmackay tomorrow to sort this out – I don't know what you're saying when you write "it didn't show it". Do you mean that nothing happened when you clicked the "Customize this page" button? Or did the big panel appear covering the page with the row of buttons down the lefthand side but clicking those buttons didn't work? Or something else?

happy to do a skype session, however I suppose the point is that the documentation may be good as long as everything works. For me I didn't manage to get an image up, only the text box so somehow I need to add in the visualisation and I am stuck. There is the customise this page button bu tthe menu then presented is not the same as if you are doing from scratch. So, still stuck as to what button to press next to get the vis added to my dashboard.
