Fashion Critique: Using Komodo During a Session with PC VR

Students

  1. Sign into Zoom and do a mic and speaker check
  2. Open Firefox and log into Komodo
  3. Go to the session and check if your garment and mood board are there
  4. Start the session
  5. Put on your VR headset and make sure you are in Komodo
  6. Learn to use Komodo

Sign into Zoom and do a mic and speaker check

  1. Sign into Zoom with your Illinois email and password
  2. Join the Zoom session provided to you via email
  3. Open Zoom audio settings
  4. Hold the VR headset and lightly tap it to make sure the microphone works
  5. Play a test sound and make sure the sound is coming from your VR headset

Open Firefox and log into Komodo

  1. In Firefox, go to "komodo-dev.library.illinois.edu"
  2. Or type tiny.cc/kmd0 in the address bar
  3. Enter your Illinois email address
  4. Enter your Komodo account password
  5. Press Login

Go to the session and check if your garment and mood board are there

  1. Choose ARTS 221
  2. Choose <Semester> Critique Group B Session 1 OR Session 2 by clicking on the play icon.
  3. In the Assets table, look for FirstnameLastname-G and FirstnameLastname-M. (You may need to look on the second page)
  4. Click on FirstnameLastname-G to preview it.
  5. Return to the session page (press the back button).
  6. Click on FirstnameLastname-M to preview it.
  7. Return to the session page (press the back button).

Start the session

  1. Choose > START NOW (in the upper right).
  2. Wait for the VR button in the lower right corner to turn blue, then press it.
  3. Put your VR headset on.

Put on your VR headset and make sure you are in Komodo

  1. You should see a 3D environment.
  2. If you see the outside world in black and white...
    1. Follow the instructions to set up the Guardian boundary.
    2. Or ask for help.
  3. If you see a virtual home, a white grid room, an app store, or some other application, please ask for help.

Learn to use Komodo

Show the menu

  1. Switch to a right-handed menu by pressing the Komodo menu button (Y) on your left controller.
  2. Press the Komodo menu button (B) on your right controller to switch back to a left-handed menu.
  3. Press either menu icon to show and hide the menu.

Use the menu

  1. Point your hand at the menu.
  2. Press the trigger button with your index finger.

Reset your position

Choose "Starting location" (the house icon) in the menu.

We recommend doing this because the starting position may have been affected by any scrolling motion done before you entered VR.

Calibrate your height

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Press Calibrate Height if you are able to stand.
  3. If not, press the /\ /\ or \/ \/ buttons until you are at a comfortable height.

Look for others

Wave to your peers!

Teleport

  1. Press and hold the thumbstick like a button.
  2. Aim at the floor.
  3. Let go of the thumbstick.
  4. NOTE: due to a bug in the latest version of Komodo, sometimes, you need to teleport twice to land at the correct height. (Do not recalibrate your height -- simply teleport a second time to the same place.) Our apologies.

Snap turn (rotate your view)

Quickly flick the thumbstick left or right.

Move and rotate a model

  1. Place your hand in a model.
  2. Squeeze the grip button with your middle finger.
  3. Move your hand.
  4. Let go of the grip button.

Stretch a model

  1. Place both hands in a model.
  2. Squeeze both grip buttons with your middle fingers.
  3. Move both hands.
  4. Let go of both grip buttons.

Lock and unlock a model

  1. Open your menu
  2. Select the unlock / lock icon to the left of the model name.

Exit the session

  1. Press the hamburger button on your left controller.
