Error while opening Symphytum.pro

Hi all : according to

1. Update the TRANSLATIONS variable in the Symphytum.pro file

Parse error at folder/ Symphytum.pro:1:1:
Start tag expected.

Never used Qtlinguist before,i get it working (windows). 5.1.x
I can use/translate ts, create qm,
change the qt.xx.qm (although extension changes qm.qph ??) etc
Anyway..is opening the .pro file necessary to create the language files?
