Open source digital dentistry with photogrammetry and 3D printing

Context

Digital dentistry is emerging as the most effective and efficient way for most dental treatments. However, what it takes to get started with digital dentistry is exorbitantly expensive. While a similar situation on cost existed with oxygen concentrators, the COVID pandemic spurred open source oxygen concentrator designs that allowed for low cost, freely available life saving equipment to be created by the community. Similarly, there do exist potential open source replacements for commercial hardware and software that may be able to allow for digital dentistry to be practiced at low cost.

Project

Take 2D images of the oral cavity using a small camera. Use methodology of 2D image to 3D model conversion as described in this paper and then use techniques described in this article.
