The project hasn't had any commits in the last 4 months - and even then, it was only merging a very old PR, so I don't really count that as a commit.
There haven't even been any new issues in 6 months, other than this one.

No, the "modders don't get paid and have to focus on things that they need to spend their time on" explanation will not work. If they had done so, there would have been a notice on the github page, which there is not.
