"suid" is "command->user" which is a bit inverse to "sudo", which is "user->command". There are some important differences:
"suid" does not sit in the process chain as it does not fork. There is no password required to start the commands. The config /etc/suid.conf has the well known /etc/passwd format. There is a well defined disarmed environment of the run command. It also disables shell function exports (aka. shellshock).
