Accessibility issue with web site #6
Comments
Thanks for opening the issue, I actually already included an item related to this in the next coordination meeting: hpc-carpentry/coordination#17 I think we need to completely revisit the setup for this page, we've already had to do a dance to get support for blog posts (see #17). A long term solution would be to track the setup used by https://github.com/carpentries/carpentries.org and hopefully outsource these kinds of issues. |
@karres-illinois We did a complete remodel of the website based on the upstream Carpentries website. You can now find this at https://www.hpc-carpentry.org/ . If you have time, it would be great if you could highlight any issues you find with that. The repo that creates that site is at https://github.com/hpc-carpentry/hpc-carpentry.org |
Thank you!
The site over all is MUCH improved, considering my vision issues. I know that I am not a perfect bellwether for all sight issues though.
I will point out a couple of things I noticed on the site:
* On the HPC Carpentry Blog page: there are lines that look like
2020-11-12 Alan O'CaisPeter Steinbach
The font color of those lines is nearly invisible. The date also had the same color but would not copy and paste in that way here.
There is a Tweets box and most of the text in there is also very light colored.
* On the Contacts page the “General Enquiries” text is rather faint. It might be a color thing or a font thinness thing.
There is a Twitter button on that page that is almost invisible. White text on that translucent background (and tiny font) is really hard to see.
Great work, thank you again

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm going to move this issue over to the repo for the new website so that we can track of these and try to address them. |

Hello
I have just visited the HPC-Carpentry web site. I have some significant vision issues (I have sight just very poor). There are two issues with the font used in the paragraphs that make them unreadable to me. I was not able to see/find a maintainer email address but did find a link to the various carpentries repos. I opened an issue in one of them and they directed me here.
The problems are that the paragraph font color appears to be maybe mid-or light grey. and that the font is very thin. The grey text sinks into the white background and the thinness of the font type makes that worse.
Can you please change the font color to black on white background... actually black against all light/translucent backgrounds? Also please use "normal" weight fonts please.
Thank you
