Estimation support (column view)

• not really sure if I can do this in sublime yet. REALLY hope the sublime team gives me some of the features I have been asking for Emacs has a lovely means of editing properties on all headings in a file.

This is called column mode. It is implemented as an overlay on a buffer… which means… we can’t do it in sublime.

Right now my thought is that we might implement it with phantoms and the input panel. We might do as follows:

• Flip to a column fold of the document
• Insert phantoms at every heading that have the table elements
• Support cursor navigation of the phantoms with the input panel representing the active cell.
• Dynamically update the folded properties as we go.

It’s lame, but it’s the best idea I have right now.

Quality of life

• Improve auto highlighting construction
• Improve todo lists to include headings

Org For Writers

The idea of this is to use org mode to emulate some of the more common writing tools such as scrivener

This has been something that emacs has had for years and some writers do indeed use it.

We split the layout into 2 views. We show the same document in both views The view on the left we have a ViewEventListener for that: Forces the document to stay folded in contents view mode. You can unfold for a quick look but it will refold again like links and properties do. It listens for you to press enter and if you do it jumps to that heading in the right pane. The right pane has a view event listener that is tracking selection. When that moves it highlights a region in the left pane on the heading you are currently in! In this way you have a table of contents view with sections and can easily jump around. We create helper methods to create property drawers for notes and other writers aids. These are hidden away. We support export to PDF and other common ebook formats that writers tend to publish in.

Read The Org Export

I would like to create a default html style export that behaves a looks a lot like Read The Org, which is a very popular style for emacs.

Babel - What this is

Babel has at its root 2 ideas:

Literate Programming

The concept that programming is more about communication to programmers than communication to a machine

Reproducible Research

The idea that all tools, data, process and output should be part of a research document.

Script vs Function

Bable supports the notion of script vs function execution. In script mode babel will capture stdout and stderr and treat that as the output In function mode babel will treat the code as a function and capture the output of the last statement and format it back to text.

Simple Variables

Source blocks can and should support :var key=data-source-or-value entries These specify the available parameters to a source block.

Sources

I was thinking we could treat sources as plain old data types OR generators. Generators represent the abstract concept of a list and can pull from almost anywhere.

Tables as Source

Table data should be an optional source for any source block.

Lists as Source

List blocks in code should be an optional source for any source block.

Output Formats

The system needs to be smart enough to detect tabular data and output it as:

• a link
• a table
• simple output
• a list
• silent

Call Comment Block

These are a way of invoking a script block several times with different parameters.

Table Functions

Script blocks need to be called from a TBLFM: block on a table. This is done through a function that takes the name and parameters. (sbe function)

Tangle

The ability to strip code from a document and produce a fully functional piece of source code. The tangle engine is dependent on the language snippets to help format the code.

• OrgTangleDocument - Should produce source files following the tangle parameters in src blocks.

Note NoWeb macros should be respected and evaluated as part of the tangle process.
