Yesss. The patron player has that. Or rather, "will have that," because the patron player is disabled at the moment. When it's online, the VTT thumbnails get generated automatically and it's pretty slick.
I did some research and it looks like I can do it with the IPFS (plyr.io) player too, although it'll take more work for that player because I'll have to render the VTT from the vod at some point after it gets added to the db.
The whole backend got redesigned recently so I'll have to think more about which system component should handle the VTT rendering. I'll also have to store and serve the VTT somehow.
Definitely I think timeline thumbnails are important for a good playback experience so I'm going to plan on implementing VTT for both players.
Would it be possible to get timeline thumbnails in VTT format to show on the video player?
