Currently it is not clear what retro platform(s) we can run a homebrew game on. Only modern tags like HTML5, Windows and iOS are showing. Especially when a game creator is offering a ZIP file there's no way to see if there is an EXE file inside or a rom that can actually be played on a retro system (e.g. an Analogue Pocket or original Game Boy). I am baffled why these essential platform tags are missing on a platform like Itch.io.
Describe the solution you'd like
I want to see retro platforms tags like Game Boy, Game Boy Color, PICO8 and NES. I would be much more tempted to buy a game if I knew I could play them on the (FPGA or original) hardware I own.
Describe alternatives you've considered
If the Comment section is open I sometimes ask the creator what platform the game is on (which I think should be totally unnecessary).
Additional context
Here's 2 examples. I have no idea if I can play these games on an original/FPGA Game Boy once I buy them. (Hint: you can, you get a GB rom)
Currently only these platform tags are supported:
Why not start with adding Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Genesis and NES? These communities are super active on Itch.
