Deleting in PERSIST MODE causes segfaults #21

Reproduction steps:

start with a fresh tree
add two children
pick one of the children
enter persist mode
delete the neighbor (may cause segfault at this point)
press escape (may cause segfault at this point)
if you haven't segfaulted yet, press escape again
