Hello Buddy,

the background service was being stopped when the app is closed on Android 5.

Because both are in the same thread so the O.S will kill it when you kill the app from memory. A solution is to either start the service from another thread using Alarmanager or start service in foreground like music player. I have not tried both yet though. Good luck!
