GKS not in proper state

I understand that there are already some issues open (and more issues closed) about GKS not in proper state but the error still persists on my Windows 11 machine. The screenshot shows an error that appears when I call plot(1:5). After I close the window with this error, I get a lot of lines of GKS not in proper state.

Also, when Plots.jl is compiled, the same gksqt error window is displayed, sometimes multiple times.

Saving the plot without displaying it fails as well.

Those problems should be fixed with recent versions. Could you please try to ] add GR in a fresh environment?

I reinstalled julia, added GR and the same exact error appeared.

Did you remove C:\Users\Math User\.julia before? Could please try to debug the installation process:

I did delete the .julia folder completely before reinstalling Julia.
I did

C:\Users\Math User> set JULIA_DEBUG="GR"
C:\Users\Math User> julia
(@v1.8) pkg> add GR
julia> exit()

but I don't know where to find the debug log output. There is no file in the C:\Users\Math User folder.

Also, I just discovered that despite the errors doing

julia> gr()
Plots.GRBackend()
julia> p=plot(1:5);
julia> savefig(p,"test")

does save the correct plot! This is good to know because it means I can keep using GR and just ignore the error messages. But it would be nice to be able to see the output immediately without having to save and then delete the plot.

I deleted the .julia folder and Julia itself, reinstalled Julia, set the debug environment and added GR.

It seems that the Qt installation provided by the Julia package manager is incomplete. I'm out of office today and can't make further test. The only idea I have is, that there is a problem with the user name. Could you repeat the test on your Windows machine with a user name without spaces in it? But that's only an assumption ...

Rebooting my entire os installation seems overkill but I guess I can try that and see if it helps.
