Simple catalog throws error: "Error during the Catalog rendering: Catalog View: Table not selected"

I'm new to CustomTables so I hope I'm posting this to the right location. I have installed the extension and created 3 tables with multiple fields in each. I then created 2 layouts: one for Simple Catalog and one for edit. It is published in a different Menu, but after associating the module the Catalog page throws the following error:

"Error during the Catalog rendering: Catalog View: Table not selected".

Both the layout and the menu item show the correct table associated.

PHP log only shows the following:
"PHP Warning: Attempt to read property "fieldInputPrefix" on null in /homepages/38/d4298736551/htdocs/HelioFence/components/com_customtables/views/edititem/tmpl/default.php on line 20"

Also, I would like to know what type of the module do you use?
