I keep getting this error in version 3.0.0 (works fine in version 2.8.1.)

Please post a full stacktrace.

What POI version do you use?

It would be good if you could narrow down which Jxls and Apache POI version the problem started with.

Is the template created with Microsoft Excel only? If not recreate it from scratch using only Microsoft Excel.
