Would it be easy to leverage iOS to get this working on macOS too?

Echo cancellation on MacOS is blocked by limitations in the record library (github.com/llfbandit/record) used by the VAD package. While MacOS's AVFAudio's AVAudioIONode provides echo cancellation APIs, attempts to enable these through the record library have failed. This was reported in issue #439. We'll revisit when the record library adds proper AVFAudio echo cancellation bindings and welcome PRs addressing this gap.
