Just picking the file and having the server upload it would be nice (especially if it cloud be a server to server connection), but maybe it would also be possible to just permanently reference a file on a WebDAV storage?

Similar to how Rocket.chat allows direct access to a personal WebDAV storage (Nextcloud etc. see: https://nextcloud.com/blog/rocket-chat-and-nextcloud-announce-partnership-and-integration/ ) it would be nice if this could be added.
I think there are some easy to use Golang WebDAV libraries, like for example this one: https://github.com/studio-b12/gowebdav
