Efficient data copy during VM migration

If the source VM is using vmware vvols on networked storage array, it is possible to do efficient data copy on the array itself that could bring down the migration time from hours to seconds. Is there anything that exists already to plugin such efficient data copy mechanism? If not, one thought is to annotate the PVC with the source vvol id. Then, the CSI provisioner could do the data copy during PV creation itself and indicate that such data copy was done via another annotation. Forklift would then skip its own data copy and continue with the rest of the migration steps. Any thoughts?

Hi, 100% agree with you,
we are actively working on this, we are trying to make it as vendor-generic as possible which makes it a bit complicated.
I'll try to keep you updated on the progress.
