Default Display Not Saving Correctly

I have the Default Homepage Display set at "Listing". This works fine when I save the setting, however, seemingly at random the display will change to "Categories" view. When I look at the settings the default is set back to "Categories" when in fact I never changed it. This has happened many times. How do I get the default homepage display to show listings and not categories all the time?
