I think this is mostly because pcg is running the txnBuf -race tests with a 120s timeout, which is pretty low, considering the underpowered VMs being used here

Nope, still getting killed on travis. Dunno why.

(go test -timeout 480s -v -race ./filter/txnBuf passes locally on my macbook pro)
