Jtl Reporter integration with Terraform

Hi,

As part of my PoC project, I am using Terraform to provision infrastructure and to execute a JMeter performance test.

I was wondering if there is a way to implement the start and stop of the Jtl Reporter docker container either locally/on an EC2 instance so that it is not always running 24/7.

Hi @jmodeorain14 ! I guess there must be a way, but I am not familiar with terraform myself. Would you be willing to put it together and share it with the community?

Although, I think that the initial idea of the app was to be always on, as the flow of analysing the results could be asynchronous.
But if turning it off fits your workflow, why not :)

I have no problem running the docker container locally.

I'm creating the EC2 instances that are running the test via Terraform, and currently I'm trying to get the JMeter Master EC2 instance to send the test results (.jtl) file to a locally running docker container with Jtl Reporter using a curl request as stated here.

My concern here is that if I shut down my laptop, the container will stop and all of the data on the container (test results) will be lost.

Also, if I run the docker container in an AWS EC2 instance, I will be paying for it as long as it runs.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed here.

Yes, it's like that. How much would it be? What about running somewhere else cheaper? Also, you will need to have kind of logic to not to turn it off during processing, so you will need to wait until a report is fully processed.

What I was trying to say is that, to me (in the context(s) I used to work), this does not make that much sense to turn it off, because if there is more people using it, you never know when it's needed. Especially if you use features like notifications, anonymous report sharing, you never know when it will be accessed. In such a case, maybe a static HTML report would be better?

Hi again @ludeknovy.
I've gone down the EC2 instance route for now.
I have the Jtl Reporter running on a persistent EC2 instance.
But when I am trying to run the curl request to post the test results from another EC2 instance to the Jtl Reporter instance, it doesn't work.
I've even tried running the curl request manually from the EC2 instance where the test runs, but with no success.
Here's an example of the curl request I am trying to use:

curl -X POST 'http://{Jtl_Reporter_PublicIPv4}:2020/api/projects/jmeterterraformproject/scenarios/jmeterterraformscenario/items'
-H 'x-access-token: 123456'
-F 'kpi=@/home/ubuntu/test.jtl'
-F 'environment=testenv'

Am I doing something wrong here?

Glad we resolved it. How come that the ; was used as delimiter?
I think I will add a note about the delimiter into documentation.

I was switching the delimiter in the jmeter.properties file because I was doing some post-processing of the results which used ;.

I was able to revert to the standard , delimiter and update my post-processing steps accordingly so it still works.

Adding a note to the docs about supported delimiters would be useful.
I don't think many people will change the default delimiter, but you never know.
