Either allow zero or multiple referencing switches
or allow either the query file name or referencing flags to be empty.

The former would enable constructing complex views in a single invocation.
The latter would enable constructing complex views by iterating across dependencies.

In either case I (Matt) volunteer to fix the .sh.
