Rules

The following rules changes from CN2 may be relevant for XMage:

  • Cards can now have multiple names due to Spy Kit, see Refactor needed: Support for objects having multiple names #12805:

201.2b. If an object has more than one name, it has the same name as another object if there are one or more names that both objects have in common.

201.2c. Two or more objects have different names if there are no names that both objects have in common.

  • New planeswalker type: Kaya

  • New ability word: council's dilemma

  • Abilities can now allow actions to be taken before shuffling the deck to begin the game, and other abilities can now be linked to these abilities:

607.2m. If an object has a static ability printed on it that allows a player to exile one or more cards "before you shuffle your deck to start the game" and an ability printed on it that refers to cards "exiled with cards named [this object's name]," the second ability is linked to the first ability of any objects that had the specified name before the game began.

  • New keyword action: goad

  • New keyword ability: melee

  • The concept of a player being the monarch is introduced:

    716. The Monarch

716.1. The monarch is a designation a player can have. There is no monarch in a game until an effect instructs a player to become the monarch.

716.2. There are two inherent triggered abilities associated with being the monarch. These triggered abilities have no source and are controlled by the player who was the monarch at the time the abilities triggered. This is an exception to rule 112.8. The full texts of these abilities are "At the beginning of the monarch's end step, that player draws a card" and "Whenever a creature deals combat damage to the monarch, its controller becomes the monarch."

716.3. Only one player can be the monarch at a time. As a player becomes the monarch, the current monarch ceases to be the monarch.

716.4. If the monarch leaves the game, the active player becomes the monarch at the same time as that player leaves the game. If the leaving monarch is the active player, the next player in turn order becomes the monarch.

Oracle

In CN2, there have been the following Oracle changes which will have to be implemented. Functional errata are marked in boldface, and unimplemented cards are omitted.
