Cannot install on fedora linux for use with helix

Hi, I'm trying to setup steel for use with helix-editor/helix#8675 so that I can try the plugin system. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Clone https://github.com/mattwparas/helix/blob/steel-event-system into ~/Documents/ and switch to the steel-event-system branch
2. Clone this repo into ~/Documents/
3. Edit the Cargo.toml file in ~/Documents/helix/Cargo.toml:

4. In ~/Documents/steel/, I ran the following commands:

However, I get the following error:

Can you try running that install script from the cogs directory itself?

That still gives me the same error as before

Okay I think I got it - can you install the dylib installer? I've now found some short comings in the installation instructions I can update next chance I have.

(Sorry for the formatting, I'm on my my phone)

From the root of the repo, can you run:

cargo install --path crates/cargo-steel-lib

And then re run the install script as described before.

Thanks for the help, steel now compiles, and I've been able to go through the following steps

• Clone your helix repo
• Sett the repo to the right branch
• Run cargo install --path helix-term --locked
• Edit helix.scm in ~/.config/helix/:

  (require (prefix-in helix. "helix/commands.scm"))
  

• Create a blank file at ~/.config/helix/init.scm

However having the one line of code in my helix.scm config causes helix to error:

Error: Io: No such file or directory (os error 2)

Its hard since the instructions are across two different repos - but can you try running cargo xtask steel from the root of the helix repo?

That gives another error with the default configs suggested in https://github.com/mattwparas/helix/blob/steel-event-system/STEEL.md:

I think that code block is outdated - I just pushed a fix that should have correct code there

There's still a bit of outdated code on the helix.scm file on line 23:

Great, glad that we could get it working! Good catch on the instructions, seems like that missing line was actually in my config as old as well. Should be updated now
