Given the sheer size of this thread and how difficult it has become to manage I'm creating a new process for managing feature requests. See The New Process to submit your new feature requests

To avoid duplicate feature request and cluttering of the issue tracker, please comment any feature requests here and I'll keep a list.

It would be nice to be able to sort/reorder ingredients inside of individual recipes.

I am not sure sort would really be useful since you would only be able to do a basic A-Z sort, but since each "ingredient" is a string that begins with a quantity, you would essentially just be weirdly sorting on quantity - Don't think the sorting that way would even make sense e.g., these ingredients would be in "alphabetical" order:

1 1/2 carrot
1 apple
1.25 banana

Reordering ingredients might be doable through a change to the UI during an edit though.

I'm currently playing around with a drag and drop reorder function in the editor.

A tab or section for incomplete recipes or drafts, for someone experimenting with different ingredient proportions? Not sure how useful would really be, so really up to you :)

The ability to edit serving size and auto-calculate ingredient list would be great. For example, if my base recipe is 2 servings and calls for 1 onion and I want to make 4 servings, I should be able to select "4 servings" and the ingredient list would then show "2 onion."

This seems to be the ONE thing that Mealie is missing right now for me to pull the plug on my old recipe manager and just migrate everything. It would make modifying recipies SO much easier on the fly so we can scale them up/down.

+1. I suspect this feature would also depend on a re-work to how ingredients are stored; as they appear in the demo to be just a string field rather than a tuple of a number and a measurement unit.

EDIT: I see this has already been pointed out and that some meaningful progress has already been made; #507.

Would it be possible to input some leftover ingredients which are on hand, and then mealie suggests all the recipes which are possible to use with those ingredients? Also, would it be possible to create a separate drinks / smoothie section?

Hm, Raspberry PI 4 (latest one) is running on ARMv7. The latest Version of Mealie on docker hub for ARMv7 is 0.4.3 - are there any plans to compile ARMv7 Images for newer releases of mealie? :)

Mealie will no longer build in CI/CD due to a issue with the rust compiler on 32 bit devices. You can reference this issue on the matrix-org/synapse Github page that are facing a similar issue. You may still be able to build the docker image you-self.

What about a bookmarklet or some type of mobile iOS extension that allows the addition of recipes without entering the UI.

I would like to see this. There is an IOS Shortcut, but a bookmarklet for desktop browsers would be nice. It looks like the API requires a POST to api/recipes/create-url , which I have not been able to turn into a bookmarkmarklet (my skills are weak). If it was a GET, then it would be easy to to have a bookmarklet to post current page to the API

It looks like the web app uses /?recipe_import_url={URL} to parse a webpage. I was able to create a functional bookmarklet using this!

A browser extension for Chrome and/or MS Edge would be awesome - got a recipe, click the browser button, recipe is added to Mealie - this then makes the app wife-friendly

I won't be making any extensions, but it's a cool idea! It could even be flexible enough to plugin to other self-hosted options in the recipe space. If anyone puts something together, let me know and I can add a note in the documentation

This could be implemented with the Web Share target API, not smart enough to implement it I guess and might give it another crack with v1

@thedeany this feature would require that the ingredients are not simple strings. Check out #70, #109, #1 for more information on the thoughts regarding separating out the quantity from ingredients.

Is it possible to strip any html tags and ampersand code from the ingredients and steps sections , or any other areas that shouldn't have them ?
If i for instance import recipes from the bbc good food site i get a load of <p> and </pr> tags in the ingredients list and some imports from other sites i get ampersand codes especially   etc...

Would be really great if the units could be converted automatically between metrics and imperial.
Converting to the nearest possible number should be sufficient enough (4 ounces ≈ 115gram)

I got some receipts in metrics and others in imperial, when I add this into my shopping list I see both.
Love to see if this conversion become as part of site settings.

I'm not certain, but I feel like this will be implemented in v1 or soon after with the implementation of ingredient scaling.

It would be nice to be able to include other recipes or at least a link to other recipes within a recipe. An example could be a sauce or frosting that could be used with in multiple recipes. To reduce duplication it would make more sense to be able to write the frosting recipe and then import or reference it to multiple cake recipes that use it.

It would be nice if there was a overriding setting to replace the internal docker ip with a fqdn when doing sign up links etc. This is pretty awesome tho. Fantastic work.

I love the fact that the application has both light and dark modes.

It would be really useful f we could set dark mode as the default (e.g. for users who have never visited the site). A nice way to do this might be to add an ENV variable such as DEFAULT_MODE: 'dark' so that it can be handled easily in Docker.

Along with the "ingredients" list, it would be useful to have an additional "equipment" list.
Some recipes require equipment (e.g. sugar thermometers, piping bags, etc.) that not everyone has available.
It would also be fantastic if we could flag each equipment item as "optional" or "required".

Would it be possible to have a mode which requires a user account logged in to access any of the site (i.e. redirects to the login page)? I'd love to self host this for my extended family, but don't want it publically accessible. The public enable/disable option for recipies kind of achieves this, but its not possible to disable the ability to toggle the option.

I see you already included "waiting time" in feature requests, so this is maybe slightly duplicative, but I'd like to have an "active time" in addition to waiting time. It would also be nice to be able to associate an individual active/passive time with each step of a recipe - when i write out my recipes by hand I always put times in the margins to help me organize my schedule, since there's a lot of wait 30m/active 5m/wait 30m/active 5m type of stuff when breadmaking. Currently I just add it as a line break below the actual recipe step so I can pick it out visually on the fly.

Love the project. It was helpful in our last recipe manager to organise shopping list items by a food group/ store locations (i,e Meat/Dairy/ Produce etc.)

I use Mealie in Docker as a Home Assistant addon. It would be incredible if Mealie would integrate with the builtin Shopping cart in HA so I could just add the required ingredients with one click. This or Todoist, any would be great.

Just started using Mealie and it seems like the best software I've found so far for this. I was looking in the beta site as well and it looks like one big feature request I wanted to call out is still relevant (love the cook books idea).

For pages/cookbooks, could we add tag filters as well?

I like the idea of using Categories for entree, side, dip, etc and tags for things like cuisine, but I'd prefer to be able to have that page/cookbook interface for say all the Mexican food I have in my group of recipes. As is to get that functionality I'd have to make "Mexican - Entree", "Asian - Entree" or "Entree (Mexican)", "Entree (Asian)" etc which seems difficult to manage over time.

To summarize: I'd like to be able to make a cookbook/page that looks at my "Soup", "Side", "Appetizer", "Dessert", "Main Course" categories, but also only at items in those categories that are tagged with "Asian"

Or if there is a better way of doing this with the features available now that I'm missing that would be fine as well.

When creating an meal plan the name gets generated like so: Monday, Sep 27 - Friday, Oct 1 - I'd like to see the same when one generates an shoping list from that meal plan (so the shopping lists name is also Monday, Sep 27 - Friday, Oct 1). This would make it easier to maintain shopping lists (currently an shopping list gets the generic name MealPlan Shopping List - so after generating a few shopping lists it gets very confusing which one is the "current" one).

Perhaps also add an feature so that when an meal plan is deleted, if there exist an shopping list generated from this meal plan also delete the shopping list?
