Technically the advice is still valid for projects that maintain Meson configs upstream and want to support < 0.54. However, WrapDB doesn't support those versions anymore, so its docs shouldn't either. Upstreams will discover the version check if they need it.
WrapDB still supports Meson < 1.1.
