Getting an error "Selected dates are not part of any or same Iteration." when trying to add days off

When entering team members' leave, or other events, it makes zero sense that it MUST fall within an existing iteration. In many cases people don't know how long iterations are going to last. People's availability is an independent piece of data that should not have dependencies. This issue has been extant for years, please can you fix it?
