configuration.rst file no longer displaying as markdown?

I may be wrong, but didn't the configuration.rst file used to be rendered as markdown when viewed on github? I am almost sure of this. Switching between the "Preview" and "Code" tabs does nothing, too.

Copy pasting it to a github gist with the .md extension gets me what it looked like before, so I'm wondering what changed on github's end.
