Annotation in consult--multi vs consult--read

I call consult--multi with a custom source that should show an outline of my org main file. This works, but I wanted to have the face of the lines match the source. I thought of using consult--line-fontify as :annotate for this purpose.

However, upon checking the documentation of consult--multi vs consult--read, it seems that :annotate is treated differently in both. In consult--read it can return a list of (candidate prefix postfix), while in consult--multi it has to return an annotation string (postfix).

Is the expected way to do such customization to change the items instead? Does this mean there's no way to have a prefix annotation in consult--multi?

I note that this seems to have changed from previous versions of consult and I am wondering if it's intentional.

This is intentionally not supported. See the arguments in #565.
