Thumbnail on seekbars?

Is thumbnail on seekbars on the roadmap for mpv or even possible to implement as a feature that makes sense with the rest of the software? I feel like this feature can be considered essential in video players as it's the only way to provide context for the video without moving the seekbar and needing to manually jump back to the previous position.

I saw some plugins that try to implement this, but they either suffer performance issues (I can hear the CPU fan crank up on my modern PC), doesn't support Youtube videos (only supports local files), and/or thumbnail generation might not be implemented "the proper way" (e.g. I see a plugin jump to that point of the video and take a snapshot then display it--not sure if this is how typical thumbnail on seekbars work for other players that seem to have no problem with this).

Youtube uses pre-generated thumbnails, for its thumbnails to load quickly it has to be implemented differently from local files by showing these pre-generated thumbnails instead of extracting them by seeking the video. We already have the URLs of these thumbnails in user-data, so I was hoping they could be implemented only for Youtube if easier, as I think they're mostly useful for that.
