Is it possible to export from v25.10.1 to Fresh Latest Version?

I tried following the migration path from v25.10.1 to latest, however run into many errors. I did try follow the documentation but no doubt not understanding some of it (sorry). I'm not an Docker or Ubuntu guru unfortunately. Each error I Googled led down a rabbit hole of more errors.

I was now thinking about installing a new Instance, from scratch using the latest version. If I do that:

• Is it possible to import existing data from 25.10.1, (if exported from it i.e. Devices & Config?
• If not, is it a bad idea to stay on 25.10.1. It does everything I need trouble free?

Sorry to hear you have issues.

You can try the backup/restore method:

1. Export devices.csv
2. Save your workflows.json
3. Save your app.conf
4. Install a fresh installation of the latest NAX instance
5. Replace app.conf, workflows.json
6. Import devices.csv from the UI under Maintenance

Thanks for the prompt reply and clarifying. I have all the exports and full root folder backups on hand. I'll give it a go later & touch wood, installing a fresh one is easy and trouble free.

Will stick to 25.10.1 as wasted a few hours mucking about with trying to upgrade. I also did try run a new version as a new container and semi managed to get it running but with errors all over the place. Importing Devices didn't work so decided to stop as its a tad more complicated compared to 25.10.1 by the looks of things. Perhaps when I become a Docker/Linux permissions guru will revisit.

On the server run these two commands:

1. sudo chown -R 20211:20211 /local_data_dir
2. sudo chmod -R a+rwx /local_data_dir

Important: replace local_data_dir with the path to your config and db folders

Ha, thanks for that. Looks similar to what I was trying.
I worry about chmod commands it was those (unsure if the same) broke my whole Ubuntu Server and couldn;t even access Cockpit! Permissions were stuffed. Oops!
Luckily I had a Server backup to restore from. Will try later. & take a server snapshot in advance this time around being virtual!

I just finished testing using your Docker Compose: First up. Its running which is great. but do have some questions (sorry):
NO RUSH with reply: as only testing so not live.

STEPS: (for ref)
I left the original content in the Netalertx folder in place. Then ran

• sudo docker container stop netalertx
• sudo docker container rm netalertx
• sudo docker image rm netalertx
• sudo docker compose up -d

Result: It started fine and version shown is
Built on 2025-11-29
Installed version DEVELOPMENT 00000000

No devices were shown and settings were missing so I completed a "Devices" and a "Settings" import (via Paste). This worked fine.
Questions:
Within the netalertx folder, I am only seeing the original files and DB. I am not seeing any new DB or config files:
volumes are set as your noted i.e:
- ./config:/app/config
- ./db:/app/db

1. Where is everything stored (DB, Config etc) or am I missing the obvious (most likely)!
2. History is lost as assume due to the original DB not being used?. Can this be brought back in?
3. Version Why this 2025-11-29 version and not a 2026 one?
4. OTHER: The Server Commands: I ran. Does this look correct?
   sudo chown -R 20211:20211 /home/admin1/docker-compose/netalertx
   sudo chmod -R a+rwx /home/admin1/docker-compose/netalertx

This is expected - this was a bug in that version

I personally prefer defining absolute paths, e.g.:

- /volume1/appdata/netalertx/db:/app/db
- /volume1/appdata/netalertx/config:/app/config

If you use relative paths, e.g. ./config , this will create these in the working directory (where you run your docker commands from) which to me feels risky. When using relative paths like ./config, Docker creates these folders relative to your current working directory (where you ran docker compose up). This can easily lead to confusion or multiple data locations.

Only if you upgrade with the original DB in the right location (I think this is related to question 1)

You still have to complete 2 steps in the migration and we pinned an older version in the dfocker compose:

1. Container Spin Up Path: Yeah, I always run from within the folder path where the docker-compose.yml sits i.e.
   root@ubuntu-docker:/home/admin1/docker-compose/netalertx. I expected DB/Config to show somewhere within those folders but not seeing anything. Strange but no doubt a typo somewhere by me!.

2. DB & Version: I'll play around with installing again and the .yml path to see if I can get it to work with existing 2025.10.1 DB. At least I know that I can a running version of 2025-11-29 up and going. Once sorted, l'll then look at next steps.
