I voted "Other super feature you want".

Alerting is important and key I think for both admins and end users.

"Email alerting" falls under the alerting umbrella but is limited. Other kinds of notifying may be desired. Example wehhooks, matrix, discord, ntfy etc.

Does this have to be included in npbackup or is there an easy way to integrate (or interface towards) existing solutions, I dont know.
( do not re-invent the wheel, proudly found elsewhere come to mind )

Also I have not investigated possibilities of Prometheus or Grafana alerting which could work from the Dashboard instead of from npbackup application. Not everybody will use the dashboard though.

Personally I have used https://healthchecks.io/ at pre- and post exec steps which can work cross platform since it uses HTTP requests.

Well, calling a webhook is easy, just as long as you decide what data format it needs. I could come up with some sort of templating here (the same as for emails actually).

Prometheus alerting is up to the user to setup via alertmanager, that's out of scope of NPbackup.

Would you mind sharing your pre/post healthchecks.io scripts ?

it is just two one-liners to mark start and end of the job and pass on execution status.
Here what I use in my windows .bat scheduler script.

I voted "Proxmox VM Backups", but I am more interested in "Proxmox LXC Backups". My home lab is short on resources, so I use more containers than VM 🥲

I have to check if proxmox uses vzdump for lxc, in that case I could do both in one.

Good news everyone ! Proxmox backup of LXC containes uses vzdump just like VMs. So backing up LXC containers will work the same as VMs.
