Migrate from old XML process to Inherited process in on-premise server 2022

I have an on-premise Azure DevOps Server 2022 that has around 56,000 work items in it. It has a custom workflow and custom fields in the work item templates. Because the Visual Studio Process Template Editor extension is no longer maintained, we would like to change to an inherited process, Is it possible to migrate our current project to a new project in a new collection on the same server using this tool?

Yes, but there is a better way.

Import your collection into Azure DevOps using the Microsofts Collection Import tool, and then you will be able to change your project process to inherited.

If I'm right - that tool is for migrate from Azure Devops Server to Azure Devops Services.
But if I need migrate old project (with XML process) on my Azure Devops Server to new project (with Inheritance process) on the same server is it will be able with that Microsofts migration tool?

What you describe is out of the box on Azure DevOps Services. You can change the process for a project from an XML based process to an inherited one with just a few clicks.

But my question is about migrate project from XML to Inheritance inside Azure DevOps Server without moving it to Azure DevOps Service.

You texted above about Microsofts Collection Import tool. But it's only for migration to Services, or am I wrong?
If it has that feature to migrate project from XML to Inheritance inside Azure DevOps Server, than it indeed will be prefer way to do this operation (like in original post asked).

Or maybe provide some configuration to do this by azure-devops-migration-tools.

@MrHinsh It seems again here that you are not noticing that Azure DevOps Server does not have out of the box migration for Hosted Xml Process -> Inherited Process. In fact, Microsoft have downright refused to implement back in 2018/19, so if you can't go to cloud hosted then you're stuck.
If it's achievable with your 3rd party tool then would greatly appreciate any info you could provide!

Asked and answered! Incase you missed it my first response was "yes" .... Followed by a "but"....

It's totally achievable. It would be a migration from one project to another. We have lots of documentation on how to do that.

It would however be cheaper, less lossy, and more fun to move to service and do it there. 🤷‍♂️
