About Ohio URISA
Learn More about the History of Ohio URISA

We are the officially recognized chapter of URISA for the State of Ohio. The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) is a nonprofit association of professionals using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other information technologies to solve challenges in state/provincial, regional and local government agencies. URISA is considered to be the premier organization for the use and integration of spatial information.

Objectives

To encourage the advancement of GIS in the State of Ohio through professional education and public awareness.

To foster the exchange of ideas and provide a forum of discussion on topics related to GIS in the State.

To promote professional interaction within the state GIS community, stimulate research, encourage publication, and generally aid the advancement of its members and other organizations having related objectives.

In 2010, the Chapter had 111 members. There were 42 members who were a part of six corporate memberships, and 69 members who joined individually. Always check the calendar for the latest meeting information. Generally, we hold regular meetings on the last Monday of every month at 12:30 p.m. at the ODOT Office Building at 1980 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223. The OGRIP Forum meetings are usually held on the same day starting at 1 p.m. in the same room. From time to time we also schedule outreach meetings in various parts of the state. Our meetings are usually filled with discussions of activities we can undertake to benefit the GIS community in Ohio and to grow our organization. You can earn points towards the GISP certification for years of membership toward the Contributions to the Profession Component. Additionally, attending Chapter activities may earn points under the EDU-3 section. For questions or more information, contact the Chapter’s GISP Liaison or check out the GISCI website.
