Remote access speeds maxed around 1.5 MB/s

I have opencloud compose installed on orbstack Mac mini with traefik, ldap, keycloak, and collabora enabled. On my local network, reading and writing new files to opencloud is very fast, but on any remote network, speeds are extremely slow. Home internet is 300/300, and the remote network speed is above 150/50Mbps, so neither of these should bottleneck.

Any ideas why I’m getting such slow remote speeds? Everything works, but even a 3 MB file takes like 10 seconds to load, which is just unusable. Or, is this the expected performance? Anything to point me in the right direction will be great.

This looks like a network problem.
If openCloud is Fast in the local network, it cannot be the bottleneck.

is there a vpn or reverse proxy which could be the cause?

When remote, I am not using any vpn or external proxy, just traefik as shown in the opencloud-compose repo. I've served iperf from outside orbstack and inside orbstack, and speeds are good from both, so that doesn't seem like the issue. I just can't seem to find the problem.
