Where would we put a write up on keeping Companion & Firmware versions synchronized?
What would that wording be?

Companion & Firmware Version Synchronization
When a new version of the OpenTX firmware is released a new version of Companion is also released. It is important to use a version of Companion that is equal to or higher than the firmware version being used.
version-companion

version-firmware

--- end ---
Thoughts? I'm not sure about this...

I have that question as well.
Of course, you can use a newer version of companion, but not update your firmware.

So I'm not sure where the divergence starts to become a real issue.

@kilrah could you provide some insight?

Firmwares are build on demand and the date is the build time not the release time.

All you should need is for the major version to be the same (2.1.x, 2.2.x), but it's recommended to use matching versions. As mentioned date is irrelevant, version no is what counts.

What is the expectation then at this point? Is there anything to be done here?

I haven't kept up with the manual edits... It would be nice to add this somewhere...
