# Initialize environment

## Introduction

This lab helps you start and administer the components and services required for this workshop.

**Background**
When you establish a remote desktop session, check the environment and verify that the dependent processes are up and running. After instance provisioning, it takes around 15 minutes for all processes and services to start. If a component is not running, you can start it manually as explained in this lab.

Estimated time: 10 minutes

### Objectives

 - Ensure that the following are running:
 - Database Listener
 - *LISTENER*
 - *LISTENER_1522*
 - Oracle Database Instance
 - *emrep*
 - *db19c*
 - *orcl*
 - Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) - Management server (OMS)
 - Oracle Enterprise Manager - Management Agent (emagent)

 - Log in to Oracle Enterprise Manager in a web browser.

### Prerequisites

This lab assumes you have -
 - An Oracle Cloud account
 - Oracle Enterprise Manager installed on your system

## Task 1: Verify that the dependent components are running

In this task, you will verify that the required components, such as Listeners, Oracle Databases, and Oracle Enterprise Manager, are running on the host.

1. Verify that the listener service, *oracle-db-listener*, is running.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl status oracle-db-listener
 ```

 The status *active* indicates that the listener service is running. If the listener service is not running, you can restart it with the following command.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl restart oracle-db-listener
 ```

1. Verify that the Oracle Database service, *oracle-database*, is running.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl status oracle-database
 ```

 The status *active* indicates that the database service is running. If the database service is not running, you can restart it with the following command.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl restart oracle-database
 ```

1. Verify that EM services, *OMS* and *emagent*, are running.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl status oracle-emcc
 ```

 > **Note**: You can access the Oracle Enterprise Manager login page in a web browser only if OMS and emagent services are running.

 The status *active* indicates that these services are running. If the services are not running, you can restart them with the following command.

 ```
 $ sudo systemctl restart oracle-emcc
 ```

1. Validate *emcli* connectivity. From the terminal session on your remote desktop, run as user *oracle*.

 ```
 . ~/.occ_oms.sh
 emcli login -username=sysman -password=welcome1
 ```

If the dependent components are running, you can access the Oracle Enterprise Manager login page in a web browser.

## Task 2: Log in to Oracle Enterprise Manager

In this task, you will log in to the Oracle Enterprise Manager using a web browser.

If you have reserved a Livelabs environment, then the remote desktop session will have a web browser open and display the *Oracle Enterprise Manager* login page. If it does not display the EM login page, you can access it as follows.

1. Open a web browser and go to the Oracle Enterprise Manager login URL.
 For this lab, the login URL is:

 ```
On successful login, the browser displays the EM landing page. Your environment is now ready.
## Task 3: Generate SSH keys
In this task, you will generate a public-private key pair required for system authentication.
1. From your remote desktop session, open a terminal window and run the following to generate the key pair.
 ```

 cd ~
 ssh-keygen -b 2048 -t rsa

 ```
1. Accept defaults for file and passphrase by pressing *Enter* three times to create a key with no passphrase.
1. Update *`~/.ssh/authorized_keys`* and copy the *private key* to */tmp*.
 ```

 cd .ssh
 cat id_rsa >/tmp/rsa_priv
 cat id_rsa.pub >>authorized_keys

 ```
You can use the keys to setup Named Credentials in Oracle Enterprise Manager.
## Task 4: Set up Named Credentials with the new SSH Keys
# Storage structures in Oracle Database
## About this workshop
This workshop helps you explore the storage structures of your Oracle Database.
View information about the various database storage structures using Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control. Monitor and manage the storage that is in use and available for the database, and optimize the backups by multiplexing the online redo log files. Improve flashback features and recover from database failures using Undo Advisor by obtaining historical data.
Estimated workshop time: 2 hours
### Objectives
In this workshop, you will learn to perform the following tasks in your database from Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control:
- View Control File information
- View Archived Logs
- View and multiplex Online Redo Log information
- View and create tablespaces
- View undo information and compute minimum undo tablespace size
### Prerequisites
This lab assumes you have:
- An Oracle Cloud account
- Installed Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control
## Appendix 1: Insights into database storage structures
The Oracle Database is composed of the following storage structures:
- **Logical structures**
 Oracle Database creates and recognizes these structures that are unknown to the operating system, for example, tablespaces.
- **Physical structures**
 These structures are the physical files that store data on the disk. The operating system displays and operates the physical structures.
- **Recovery-related structures**
 These structures help recover the database if the operating system fails. The Redo Log files are examples of these structures.
The following image shows the relationships between logical and physical structures of Oracle Database. This image also shows recovery-related structures that are optionally kept in the fast recovery area.
### About Archived Redo Log information
The Archived Redo Log File option enables Oracle Database to copy the online redo log files to another location before they are overwritten. The copies of the online redo log files are referred to as the *Archived Redo Log* files. These files increase the redo data that is used for recovery purposes. The process of converting the online redo log files to archived redo log files is *archiving*. You use archived redo logs to recover the database and update a standby database.
> **Note:** Oracle Database becomes unavailable if any of the control files fail. Hence, it is important to have copies of the control files.
### What is a control file?
A control file is a small binary file which records the physical structure of the database. This file tracks the physical components of the Container Database (CDB).
The control file includes:
- Database name
- Name and location of the associated data files and the redo log files
- Database creation time-stamp
- Current log sequence number
- Checkpoint information
> **Note:** Oracle recommends that you multiplex the control files of your database. It means creating copies of the control files at multiple locations. Oracle Database Configuration Assistant (Oracle DBCA) automatically generates three copies of the control files.
### Multiplexing Online Redo Log File
Oracle Database has a set of two or more online redo log files. These log files are collectively known as *redo log* for the database.
> **Note**: The online redo log files help recover the database in event of a failure of any component, for example, hardware, software, or media.
You can multiplex the online redo log file so that you have two or more identical copies of the online redo log files on different disks.
The online redo log for a database consists of groups of online redo log files. A group consists of an online redo log file and its multiplexed copies. Each identical copy is considered to be a member of that group. The backup and recovery features of the database enable you to back up or recover at the tablespace level.
> **Note**: Oracle recommends that you multiplex the online redo log file. Multiplexing provides better protection for data if an instance or media failure occurs.
### Tablespaces: Definition and purpose
A database contains logical storage units called *tablespaces* which groups related logical structures, such as tables, views, and other database objects. For example, you can group all application objects into a single tablespace to simplify maintenance operations.
A tablespace consists of one or more physical data files. It helps the database to physically locate data on storage. When you define the data files that contain a tablespace, you specify a storage location for these files.
You can set a tablespace to automatically extend itself by a specified amount when it reaches its size limit.
> **Note**: Oracle recommends that you create at least one tablespace to store your application data.
You need tablespaces to:
- Allocate and control the disk space in the database
- Perform backup and recovery of individual tablespaces
- Create a *transportable tablespace* that you can copy or move from one database to another
**Tablespace modes**
The modes determine the accessibility of the tablespace. The various tablespace modes are:
- **Read/write mode**
 When you create a tablespace, initially it is in read/write mode.
 >**Note:** The `SYSTEM` and `SYSAUX` tablespaces and temporary tablespaces are always in read/write mode. You cannot change these tablespaces to read-only.
- **Read-only mode**
 This mode does not allow write operations on the tablespaces. The read-only tablespaces do not change, hence they do not require multiple backups. If you recover a database after a media failure, then you need not recover the read-only tablespaces.
- **Offline mode**
 This mode does not allow you to access the tablespace. You can recover and maintain the data files associated with the tablespace with this mode.
### Undo Data
When a transaction modifies the data, Oracle Database copies the original data before the modification. This original copy of the data is the *undo data*.
Saving this information is necessary since it enables certain Oracle Flashback features, such as Oracle Flashback Query and Oracle Flashback Table which help you view or recover data from a previous point in time.
### Automatic Undo Management
Oracle Database automatically manages undo data and the undo tablespace. If your database installation uses Oracle Flashback features, then ensure that sufficient undo data is retained to support these operations, otherwise, it returns an error.
The database has a group of features, known as *flashback features*, which provide options to view the older states of database objects or return the database objects to a previous state. These features use the Automatic Undo Management capability to obtain metadata and historical data for transactions. They are based on undo information that allows you to access database information from a previous point in time. With automatic undo management, the database stores the undo data in an undo tablespace.
Even after committing a transaction, it is useful to retain (and not overwrite) its undo data. This ensures proper functioning of the Oracle Flashback features and consistency of long-running queries. The database maintains and automatically tunes an undo retention period using Undo Advisor. The undo retention period plays an important role in Oracle Flashback features. You must select an undo retention period that is slightly longer than the longest running active query.
The following methods help improving the Oracle Flashback operations:
- Set the minimum undo retention period for the autoextending tablespace greater than the longest expected Oracle Flashback operation. For an autoextending undo tablespace, Oracle Database automatically tunes up the undo retention period. However, this autotuned retention period can be insufficient to accommodate Oracle Flashback operations.
- Change the undo tablespace to a fixed size. To change the undo tablespace to a fixed size, select a larger size for the tablespace. If the undo tablespace size is not sufficiently large, then you will receive a Data Manipulation Language (DML) error.
# Manage tablespaces
## Introduction
This lab demonstrates how to view the tablespaces and create a new tablespace in your Oracle Database using Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
Estimated time: 15 minutes
### Objectives
- View tablespaces
- Create tablespaces
> **Note:** This lab contains many system-specific values. Such details might vary depending on the system you are using.
### Prerequisites
This lab assumes you have:
- An Oracle Cloud account
- Completed all previous labs successfully
- Logged in to Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control in a web browser as *sysman*
## Task 1: View the tablespaces
Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control enables you to view information such as the configuration, size, and status of the tablespaces in the Oracle Database.
Perform the following steps to view the tablespaces in your Oracle Database:
1. In the **Administration** menu, go to the **Storage** option and select **Tablespaces**.
2. View the **Tablespaces** page. It contains the details of the tablespaces in the database, including the default tablespaces, such as `SYSTEM` and `SYSAUX`.
 The **Tablespaces** page displays the following information for each tablespace:
 - the Container where the tablespace resides
 - the name of the tablespace
 - the Available Space in percentage and in size (GB)
 - the Allocated Space in percentage and in size (GB)
 - the Allocated Free Space in size (GB)
 - whether the Autoextend feature is enabled
 - the Status of the tablespace indicating that it is online, offline, or read-only
 - the Number of Datafiles
 - the type of Tablespace
 - the type of Extent Management
 - the type of Segment Management.
## Task 2: Create a new tablespace
You can create new tablespaces to keep your application data separate for backup and recovery. If the application data is kept in a separate tablespace, then you can take that tablespace offline and recover it without affecting the operation of other database applications.
Perform the following steps to create a new tablespace, Tablespace1, in the Container Database (CDB):
1. On the **Tablespaces** page, click **Create** to begin creating a new tablespace.
 > **Note:** The **Create Like** option from the Actions drop-down list creates a tablespace similar to an existing tablespace. For this lab, do not use this option.
2. On the **Create Tablespace** page in the **General** tab, specify the details for the new tablespace.
 - **Name:** Enter a name for the tablespace, for example, *Tablespace1*.
 - **Extent management:** Leave the default option, *Locally Managed*.
 - **Type:** *Permanent*. This option stores permanent data, such as system data.
 - **Status:** Leave the default option, *Read Write*. This option allows you to read and write to the tablespace after creating it.
3. In the **Datafiles** section of the **General** tab, click **Add** to add one or more data files to the tablespace.
 > **Note:** The **Use bigfile tablespace** option allows a tablespace to have only one data file with no practical size limit. For this lab, do not select this option.
4. On the **Add Datafile** page, specify the following information for the new datafile and click **Continue** to proceed.
 - **File Name:** Enter a name, for example, *Datafile*.
 - **File Directory:** It displays a prefilled value. You can click the magnifier icon beside this field to change the current directory. For this lab, do not change the default value.
 - **Tablespace:** It displays the tablespace name. You cannot modify this value.
 File Size: 100 MB.
 - **Select Automatically extend data file when full (AUTOEXTEND)**. This sets the tablespace to automatically extend itself by a specified amount when it reaches its size limit.
 > **Note:** you can set a tablespace to automatically extend itself by a specified amount when it reaches its size limit. If you do not enable the autoextend option, then the database gives an alert when the tablespace reaches its critical or warning threshold size.
 - **Increment:** 10 MB. This is the amount of disk space added to the data file when it needs more storage space.
 - **Maximum File Size:** Unlimited. This option permits the file size to increase without any limits.
5. The new datafile gets added to the **Datafiles** section of the **General** tab. Leave the default values for the **Storage** and **In-Memory Column Store** tabs. Review the information and click **OK** to create the tablespace.
 An update message appears confirming that the tablespace has been created.
6. Click the database instance **orcl1.us.oracle.com** link to go to the database instance home page.
You may now **proceed to the next lab**.
2. View the **Automatic Undo Management** page. It contains details of the undo settings for your database.
 It shows information about the **General** settings, such as:
 - The name and size of the tablespace. The database instance can have multiple undo tablespaces, but only one can be active at a given time.
 - Whether Auto-Extensible is enabled for the tablespace.
 - The Undo Mode information.
 It also shows information about the **Undo Advisor** settings, such as:
 - Analysis Time Period.
 - Required Undo Retention period.
 - Minimum Required Undo Tablespace Size (in MB).
 - Recommended Undo Tablespace Size (in MB).
## Task 2: Compute minimum undo tablespace size automatically
Oracle Database automatically manages the undo data and the undo tablespaces. With the Undo Advisor, you can determine the minimum size requirement for the undo tablespace for a particular undo retention time.
You can either compute the minimum size of the undo tablespace automatically or set the undo retention period manually.
The automatically calculated undo retention time is based on the duration of the longest-running query and the undo generation rate. Oracle recommends performing this task if you do not use the Oracle Flashback features. The Undo Advisor analyzes the data collected over specific periods of time.
Perform the following steps to configure Undo Advisor to compute the minimum undo tablespace size automatically:
1. On the **Automatic Undo Management** page, in the **Analysis Period** section, specify the following and click **Run Analysis** to analyze the minimum and recommended Undo Tablespace size.
 - **Analysis Time Period:** Select the time period for the analysis. Leave the default option, *Last Seven Days*.
 - **Desired Undo Retention:** Leave the default option, *Automatically chosen based on longest query in analysis period*.
 > **Note:** The undo advisor automatically calculates this value depending on the duration of the longest-running query and the undo generation rate. These values are visible on the **System Activity** tab of this page.
2. The Undo Advisor evaluates and displays the Analysis Results. Click **Show Graph** to view the analysis results in graphical format.
 > **Note:** Running an analysis or setting the minimum undo retention with the Undo Advisor does not change the size of the undo tablespace.
 The analysis graph will be displayed.
## Task 3: Set the minimum undo retention period manually
You can either compute the minimum size of the undo tablespace automatically as described in the previous task or set the undo retention period manually.
Perform the following steps to configure Undo Advisor and specify the duration of the undo retention period manually:
1. On the **Automatic Undo Management** page, in the **Analysis Period** section, specify the following, and click **Run Analysis** to analyze the minimum and recommended Undo Tablespace size.
 - **Analysis Time Period:** Select the time period for the analysis. Leave the default option, Last Seven Days.
 - **Desired Undo Retention:** Select the option, Specified manually to allow for longer duration queries or flashback.
 - **Duration:** Provide duration as 2 days. This value must be greater than the longest-running active query. The maximum value for the longest undo retention is 2,147,483,647 seconds. If you enter a value greater than the maximum value, Oracle Database returns an Undo Management error. To determine the duration of your required Undo retention:
 - Check the longest-running query for your workload. You can check the duration of the **Longest Running Query** from the **System Activity** tab in the **Automatic Undo Management** page.
 - Determine the longest interval for Oracle Flashback operations.
 - Determine the maximum of these two values and enter this duration. For this lab, it is *2 days*.
2. The Undo Advisor evaluates and displays the Analysis Results. Click **Show Graph** to view the analysis results in graphical format.
 > **Note:**
 - Running an analysis or setting the minimum undo retention with the Undo Advisor does not change the size of the undo tablespace.
 - By selecting any preferred value of undo retention period at any point on the curve, the **Duration** field changes to match the selected undo retention period, and the **Minimum Required Undo Tablespace Size** field changes to reflect the matching required size.
 The analysis graph will be displayed.
## Task 4: Set the undo tablespace to a fixed size
You can configure the undo tablespace to have a fixed size. You first set the undo tablespace to its minimum required size in order to handle the workload. Then use Undo Advisor to set the undo tablespace to a fixed size for future long-running queries and for Oracle Flashback operations.
Perform the following steps to set the undo tablespace to a fixed size:
1. On the **Automatic Undo Management** page, in the **Analysis Results** section, click **Edit Undo Tablespace**.
2. On the **Edit Tablespace** page, the **General** tab displays information about the tablespace. In the **Datafiles** section, click **Edit** to edit the datafile.
3. On the **Edit Datafile** page, provide the following details and click **Continue** to proceed.
 - **File Size:** Enter *500 MB*. This is the value of the minimum required undo tablespace size from the previous task.
 - **Status:** Leave the default option, *Online*. If the status of the Tablespace is *Offline*, then you cannot access it. The Offline status is useful for recovering the data files of the tablespace in the event of a failure.
 - In the ***Storage*** section, deselect **Automatically extend data file when full (AUTOEXTEND)**.
4. The window goes back to the **Edit Tablespace** page and displays a message to apply the changes. Click **Apply** to make the changes.
 An update message appears confirming that the tablespace has been modified. You have now modified the undo tablespace to a fixed size.
5. From the **Oracle Database** menu, select **Home** to go to the database instance home page.
 The database instance home page is displayed.
*Congratulations!* You have successfully completed the workshop on *Storage structures for Oracle Database*.
In this workshop you learned how to view control files, online redo log files, archived redo log files and undo data information. You also multiplexed the online redo log files, created a new tablespace and computed the minimum undo tablespace size using Undo Advisor in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
# View and multiplex online redo log file information
## Introduction
This lab walks you through the steps to view and multiplex Online Redo Log File information of your Oracle Database.
Estimated time: 15 minutes
### Objectives
- View online redo log file
- Multiplex online redo log information
> **Note:** This lab contains many system-specific values. Such details might vary depending on the system you are using.
### Prerequisites
This lab assumes you have:
- An Oracle Cloud account
- Completed all previous labs successfully
- Logged in to Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control in a web browser as *sysman*
## Task 1: View Online Redo Log File
Oracle Database maintains online redo log files to protect it against data loss. Specifically, after an instance fails, the online redo log files help the database recover committed data. An online redo log consists of two or more online redo log files. Oracle Database requires a minimum of two files to confirm that one is always available for writing while the other is in archive mode..
Perform the following steps to view the online redo log file of your Oracle Database:
1. In the **Administration** menu, go to **Storage** and select **Redo Log Groups**.
2. View the **Redo Log Groups** page. It contains the details of the groups and displays the following information:
 - The **Group** of online redo log files. A group consists of an online redo log file and its multiplexed copies. It is a numeric value.
 - The **Status** attribute of the online redo log group. The online redo log group with the status Current is the one that the log writer is using to write to the disk.
 - The **Members** of the online redo log group. Each identical copy of the online redo log file is a member of that group.
 - The **Archived** attribute of the online redo log group. It is set to Yes when you enable the archiving of the online redo logs.
 - The **Size** of the online redo log group.
 - The **Sequence** attribute of the online redo log group.
 - The **First Change** attribute of the online redo log group.
3. Select **Group *1*** in the Select column and click **View** to view the online redo log files present in *Group 1*.
4. View the **View Redo Log Group** page. It displays the number of redo log files present in that group. It also displays the file name and location of the Redo log file. For this lab, there is one Redo Log file present in *Group 1*.
5. Click **Return** to go back to the **Redo Log Groups** page.
## Task 2: Multiplex Online Redo Log information
When you multiplex the online redo log information, you maintaining multiple copies of the online redo log files.
Perform the following steps to multiplex the online redo log file in *Group 1*:
1. On the **Redo Log Groups** page, select a group number, for example, *Group 1*, and click **Edit**.
2. In the **Edit Redo Log Group** page, click **Add** to add a new member to the Redo Log Group.
3. In the **Add Redo Log Member** page, provide the following details to add a redo log member and click **Continue** to proceed.
 - **File Name**: Enter a name for the redo log file, for example, redo01a.log.
 - **File Directory**: Enter a location for the file.
 > **Note:** To protect against a failure involving the redo log itself, Oracle recommends that you enter a different directory than the other member of the redo log file group. However, even if all copies of the redo log are in the same location, the redundancy can help protect against I/O errors, file corruption, and so on.
4. The **Edit Redo Log Group** page displays the newly added member of the online redo group. Click **Apply** to multiplex the redo log file.
 An update message appears confirming that the *Redo Log Group 1* has been modified.
 > **Note:** Oracle Database does not require symmetrical multiplexed redo log files. For example, one online redo log group can have only one member, and other groups can have two members. However, an instance redo log must have at least two groups.
5. Click **Redo Log Groups** to go to Redo Log Groups home page.
6. From the **Oracle Database** menu, select **Home** to go to the database instance home page.
You may now **proceed to the next lab**.
# View the storage structures
## Introduction
This lab demonstrates how to view the storage structures in your Oracle Database using Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
Estimated time: 15 minutes
### Objectives
- View storage administration
- View control files
- View archive logs
> **Note:** This lab contains many system-specific values. Such details might vary depending on the system you are using.
### Prerequisites
This lab assumes you have:
- An Oracle Cloud account
- Completed all previous labs successfully
- Logged in to Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control in a web browser as *sysman*
## Task 1: View Storage Administration
Perform the following steps to view the Oracle Database storage administration page in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control:
1. On the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control web page, go to the **Targets** menu and select **Databases**.
2. The **Databases** page lists the Oracle Databases as managed targets.
 Select the database instance for which you want to view the details. In this example, the ***orcl1.us.oracle.com*** container database instance is selected.
3. View the database instance home page. It displays various details about the selected database.
4. On the database instance home page, from the **Administration** menu, go to the **Storage** option and select **Home**.
5. View the **Storage Home** page. It displays the storage usage details.
6. From the **Oracle Database** menu, select **Home** to go to the database instance home page.
## Task 2: View Control Files
Control files track the structural changes to the database. When you add, rename, or delete a data file or an online redo log file, the database updates the control files to reflect this change. You can view this information about the **Control Files** page.
Perform the following steps to view the control file information for the database instance:
1. In the **Administration** menu, go to the **Storage** option and select **Control Files**.
2. On the **Control Files** page, the **General** tab displays the control files and their location.
 > **Note:** Oracle recommends that you maintain a copy of the control files on different disk drives.
3. Select the **Advanced** tab to view the status of the data stored in the control file.
 The **Advanced** tab displays the following information:
 - the Database ID
 - the type of control file
 - the time-stamp of control file creation
 - the current log sequence number
 - the last changed number
 - the time-stamp of the last modification
 - whether the control file has AutoBackup enabled.
4. Select the **Record Section** tab to view the record information of the control file, including associated data files and redo log files.
5. From the **Oracle Database** menu, select **Home** to go to the database instance home page.
## Task 3: View Archive Logs
Perform the following steps to view the archive log information of your Oracle Database:
1. In the **Administration** menu, go to the **Storage** option and select **Archive Logs**.
2. View the **Archive Logs** page. It displays the archived redo log information of the Oracle Database. The database must be in `ARCHIVELOG` mode to view the archive log details.
3. From the **Oracle Database** menu, select **Home** to go to the database instance home page.
You may now **proceed to the next lab**.
