One thing to note: the admin approval for accounts is an optional thing in Mastodon, and it's something that'll be present as an option for GtS too (the setting is already there in the config file, it's just not really relevant). It's actually a great mechanism from the point of view of moderation to help prevent bad actors before they've caused any damage.
