How to execute TCL/Python/Perl scripts

Summary:

The purpose is to be able to execute scripts from a job scheduling of CloudShell. Current Version 6.0

1. The process is create an execution server that have the language API/executable installed registered with CloudShell
2. Schedule a job to executes from the Web Portal Scheduling and Queuing

 

Setup an execution server:  (this example is for TCL)

1. From the installation package,  “CloudShell/Integration/” copy the “Custom Execution Server Sample” to the Server where the script will run
2. Install Python 2.7.x, 2.7.8 is used
3. Edit the config.json file
   1. Change the “name” : “TCLEngine”
   2. Change the “type” : “TCLScript”
   3. Save.
   4. In the web Portal clicked on “Job Scheduling” Icon. 4^thone down on the left
   5. On the address bar of the browser add “TestTypes” after “SnQ”+ “/”
   6. Click on “Add” Button and make sure that the 3.b (The type) from above matches with the “Type”.
   7. Open the command line to the “Custom Execution Server Sample” folder
   8. Register the server by executing “ces.py register”, please type in exactly
   9. Run the execution server “ces.py”

 

Now that the execution server is created and registered to CloudShell

1. From the web port “Job Scheduling” the “Add New” pull down menu choose “TCLScript”
2. Name the Test Suite and on the far right click on “+” to add a test Script
3. “Name (or Executable) field is to define the Language API executable. Example: “C:\tcl\bin\tclsh.exe”
4. “Arguments” contains the test script and any arguments. Example: “myTestSctipt.tcl Apple”
5. Provide an amble time when setting the duration of the test

Also how does it work with Resource Manager integration? How can the script get the reservation ID and topology info?

I tried to create a custom python execution server and after couple of hurdles was successful

Also added more execution servers 

Few comments

• The config.josn is located in the "Custom Execution Server Sample" folder
• The "name" and "type" field values in the config.json file should match the "Name" and "Description" in the Execution Server.

• The "type" in config.json (or the value of "description" on the portal) seems to have a 30 character limit ("Custom Execution Server Python" works, "Custom Execution Server -  Python" does not work)

Stay away from Powershell (cant see the error messages if any). Use cmd.exe to execute "ces.py register" to register the server and "ces.py" to enable the server

On executing the "ces.py" you should see the # of execution server to increase by the number that is set in the config.json file ("capacity", default is 5).

Do not close (or even press Enter/Return) the cmd.exe where the "ces.py" was executed window.

To modify any of the parameters

• Delete the execution server in the portal
• Modify the config.json file to the new values
• Execute "ces.py register" from cmd.exe
• Execute "ces.py" to enable the new server

To add more custom execution servers (say one for python, one for tcl)

• Edit the config.json file to your needs
• Add the execution server on the portal (localhost/SnQ/TestTypes)
• Execute "ces.py register from a new cmd.exe
• Execute "ces.py" from cmd.exe

Ignore the message on the cmd.exe terminal - "Unable to report end of execution, error is HTTP Error 404: Not Found". Understand this indicates there is no reporting capability for these servers.
