Hi,
I made my own static markdown parser and with that found a need to have progress bars.
So I sat down and created a spec for that. You might want to read that spec through my static parser as that supports the progressbar and gives an immediate visual representation. You can find that here.
Showing progress by means of a bar is surprisingly intuitive! Github currently has no way in the markdown it supports to visualize progress. It can be done through images though, but that's extra work and doesn't scale (literally). Therefore I would like to ask Github to consider supporting my spec.
Here's a screenshot of a section of the spec with a couple examples, just so that this issue shows a visual representation too:
With this spec I specifically tried to be in the markdown style and still be as short as possible. I think it worked out quite well. If there are changes required for github to be able to adopt it then i'm definitely open to that!
The implementation I made is for markdown-it, you can find the code for that plugin here.
While nothing shows any licence, it's MIT. If required i'll change the spec and code to reflect that.
Let me know what you think and what I need to do, if anything, for support in github!
